The Bank, Barnard Castle

The Ancient Manor House is one of Barnard Castle’s oldest domestic buildings. It was formerly the residence of the Stewards of the Manor from the time of Henry VII until the reign of James I. Remodelled in the early 1600s, the origin of the house is believed to date back to the 11th century. By the 18th century the extended house had become The Punch Bowl, one of the principal coaching inns of Barnard Castle. Today the three bedroom home retains a wealth of original and restored features including oak beamed ceilings, 17th century doors and impressive stone fireplaces.
