Recently the Government has been issuing licences for the exploration of gas and oil deposits on shore in the UK. The adoption of hydraulic fracturing also known as fracking in the US has led to a consideration of the technique in the UK. Whilst fracking has been an established process for a significant period of time, the publicity surrounding it as a panacea for our energy needs has resulted in the Government pledging significant support for the sector. Notwithstanding public protestations and a range of concerns about the efficiency of the technology, it might become an increasingly wide spread technology over the coming years.
