Trainee Land Agents 

The management of a wide variety of rural estates as well as undertaking general professional work.

The roles provide experience in Property Management, Landlord and Tenant, Valuation, Land Use & Diversification, Agriculture, Forestry, Access & Rights of Way and Purchase & Sale.

Trainee Farm Consultants 

The roles provide experience in Farm Management, Farm Business Reviews including the preparation of Budgets and Cashflows, Contract Farming and Share Farming agreements, Basic Payment, Environmental Stewardship and Cross Compliance advice.

In addition, the expectation is that consultants will have an opportunity to develop a technical specialism in areas such as Agronomy, Dairy, Beef and Sheep, or the Environment.

We are open to considering both graduate and placement applications for each of these roles, depending on our assessment of you as an individual. This includes considering how you would fit in with our culture and core values as a business.

Our Approach to Training 

At GSC Grays we take the development of our people seriously. We will provide anyone looking to pursue a professional qualification with a wide range of experience to help them reach their goal.

We have a dedicated training committee within the business, with representatives from each department, to ensure that all training needs are met. Senior members of our team are also on hand to help with training and key specialisms as required.

We provide a structured career plan which will support you beyond gaining your qualification. We actively encourage Trainee Land Agents and Farm Consultants to sit their CAAV exams and provide the support for you to achieve this.

For those studying for their APC, we ensure that they gain the greatest possible depth of experience, both practically and vocationally, with our peer-led internal self-help group and external training opportunities. We also provide structured guidance from APC Assessors and mock interviews leading up to the final assessment.

“After a rewarding placement year working with the Valuations and Surveys Department at GSC Grays, I was delighted to be offered a permanent Graduate position. There was no hesitation when accepting the role as I had already experienced what the company had to offer and knew I would be re-joining a great team and progressive company.Since returning as a graduate, I have been able to apply all I learnt in my final year of University and expand my experience.

I feel that I have slotted back into the team and that I am a trusted and valued member. This allows me to work independently, gaining confidence and experience, whilst knowing support is always available as and when required.As with the majority of graduates, I am now focussed on gaining the necessary experience to allow me to sit my APC.

I was able to record a variety of experiences within different departments over my placement year, which has provided a solid and broad foundation to now progress from. The Directors and other senior members of staff take an active role in the professional development of both placement students and graduates, with three APC assessors within the company and a comprehensive support program in place, there is always someone on hand.

“Having graduated from Harper Adams University in 2017, I decided to take a year out to work, travel and play rugby in New Zealand & Australia, before joining GSC Grays in September 2018.

I first made contact with GSC Grays at the Harper Adams Graduate Fair in Autumn 2016, where I was fortunate enough to secure a week’s work experience, before setting off on my travels.

During my week with GSC Grays, I was allowed a real insight into the work the business is involved with and to meet some of the team. I was also able to present myself outside of an interview environment. This approach worked to my advantage, as I was fortunate enough to be offered a role with GSC Grays on my return to the UK. I was delighted to accept, knowing I was joining a fun, forward thinking and growing business.

GSC Grays have a strong work ethic towards encouraging and supporting graduates to develop their careers. Having joined as a Graduate Surveyor working in the Estate Management Department, I was strongly supported throughout the APC/CAAV process, qualifying in both aspects by May 2020.

However, since qualifying, I have had a career change into the GSC Grays Farm Business team! I am very grateful for the opportunity and look forward to continuing my development within my new role.”
