Due to a period of sustained growth, we are looking to recruit a consultant to join our Enviroment & Sustainability team in our Chester-Le-Street office. 

From here you will report to the Head of Environment and Sustainability, working closley with other members of the team bases in Colburn and Kirkby Lonsdale. 

They are nationally recognised for their expertise in the field and chairs the CAAV's Environment & Land Use Committee. The Head of Environment and Sustainability has led the department to deliver ground-breaking projects and in doing so, developed a genuine expertise in the field. Recent notable projects include:

  • ​Development and submission of a Landscape Recovery funding bid for an area of over 17,000 hectares
  • Delivery of two Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund (NEIRF) projects. 
  • Management of four innovative ELM Test & Trial projects.

Main Purpose of the job: 

GSC Gray's Environment & Sustainability team work with land owners, farmers and land managers to support sustainable management of the natural environment. We provide targeted advice on the opportunities available to clients through enviromental schemes and emerging nature markets, helping them to identify projects and funding steams that are a good fit for their land and business 

As an E&S Consultant you will help clients to deliver conservation projects that have lasting environmental, social and economic benefits. We take a pragmatic and holistic approach to enviromental managment that interrates environmental outcomes with the business objectives and financial interests of our clients. 

Opportunities for securing funding for, and generating income form, environmental management in England are noew emerging at pace and from multiple sources. The E&S department is focussed on bringing these new opportunities to our clients' and colleagues' awareness and helping them to understand, critique and pursue them as appropriate

Within this role you will work closely with the Head of the department and will be responsible for advising farmers and landowners on enviromental schems and markets. You will also take a lead on researching and managing new service lines and engaging in business development across the North East of England. 

Reporting Structure

The role reports to the Head of Environment and Sustainability.

The Role and Respobsibilities:

  • Managig the delivery of long-term ambitious projects such as Natural Enviromental Investment Readiness fund (NEIRF) and Landscape Recovery projects. 
  • Managing Higher Tier Countryside Stewardship application. 
  • Attending client meetings including consultations with farmers and landowners and running workshops and webinars.
  • Work closely with the internal farm business and estate management teams to support our clients through the agriculture transition. 
  • Keep up to date and undertake research to ensure relevant environmental polices and legislation, and their implications for GSC Grays and our clients are understood and effectively communicated.
  • Liaison with colleague, clients, and governments agencies
  • Research and develop new opportunities for GSC Grays and our clients 

​The Skills we are looking for in you:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience opperating within a similar role.
  • Degree qualified in a relevant field or relevant work experience.
  • FAAV and/or RICS accredited desirable, or qualified in a relevant field such as ecology, environmental sciences, conservation or forestry. 
  • In depth understanding and knowledge of natural capital principle and emerging enviromental markets, and current and future grant schemes. 
  • Awareness and understanding of how new markerts and opptunities might impact farm businesses, rural estate, and other land-based enterprises

Within the role you will be involved in supporting the management of a diverse portfolio of rural estates as well as undertaking general professional work. The roles provide experience in property management, landlord & tenant, valuation, land use & diversification, agriculture, forestry, access & rights of way, and purchase & sale.

As part of the role, you will complete a 5-year training programme that consists of a part time undergraduate degree apprenticeship working towards receiving a Bsc (Hons) Rural Enterprise and Land Management degree.

You will then progress onto achieving your APC for full Chartered Membership of the RICS as part of the End Point Assessment.

Training:

We have a strong commitment to the training of our people which complement the broad experience offered. The successful candidates are expected to have a mix of professional interests and a sound understanding of agriculture and the countryside.

Main purpose of the job:

We are recruiting for brand new opportunity for an experienced Administrator to join our Residential Lettings Management team in Colburn. Within the role you will oversee and take a lead on a wide range of general administrative duties.

Working closely with the Head of Residential Management, you will be an excellent communicator with an organised approach and possess the ability to solve problems by using your own initiative.

Reporting Structure:

The role reports to the Head of Residential Management

The role and responsibilities:

  Typing of letters, emails, reports, creating excel schedules etc and audiotyping.

  Dealing with telephone calls and emails.

  Arranging property inspections.

  Assist the Head of Residential Management collating the reports, arranging any compliance as necessary and dealing with landlords.

  Follow up on calls, appointments and other enquiries.

  Reception duties including answering the telephone, dealing with queries, redirecting calls as necessary and taking messages.

  Photocopying, scanning, printing & electronic filing as well as Outlook email management.

  Upkeep of tenant and landlord filing & electronic filing.

  Diary management/arranging meetings.

  Any other reasonable duties, as required, to ensure the smooth running of the office.

The skills we are looking for in you:

  Good general knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Planner, OneDrive. Advanced Excel skills would be an advantage.

   Knowledge of letting legislation would be advantageous however is not essential.

   Organised with a proactive and problem-solving approach to tasks.

   Excellent standard of written English language.

   Professional telephone manner.

   Good level of numeracy, accuracy, and attention to detail.

   Well presented with a warm and welcoming manner. 

   Good level of numeracy, accuracy, and attention to detail.

   Ability to prioritise busy workload and manage time.

   Ability to act on own initiative whilst also working within Company processes and procedures.

   Pays a high attention to detail.

   Ability to deal with clients at all levels, from tenants and landowners to clergy and gentry, and always maintain confidentiality.

Main purpose of the job:

We are currently recruiting for an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Residential Lettings team based in Colburn. The role will include some travel as you will be responsible for a portfolio of properties within this region. 

You will work with the Residential Management team to deliver excellent customer service for both landlords and tenants, and to further develop and expand the work of the department. Being a team player is key to this role as working within a team is essential to ensuring a professional efficient service, as well as a positive can-do attitude.

Reporting Structure:

The role reports to the Head of Residential Management. 

The role and responsibilities:

  Respond promptly and appropriately to communication from Tenants, Landlords and Contractors both verbally and in writing.

  Liaise with Tenants, Landlords and Contractors regarding any arising property maintenance issues and repairs both verbally and in writing.

  Carry out inspections and report to Landlords and Tenants accordingly.

  Liaise with the accounts department in respect of any rent arrears.

  Liaise with the Tenants to ensure payments are made promptly and update Landlords accordingly. You will also chase arrears when necessary.

  Liaise with Contractors, Tenants and Landlords to ensure all statutory certificates are in place and renewed as necessary. To include but not limited to Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), Gas Safety tests, Electrical Safety test, Boiler Services, Chimney Sweeping and PAT Testing.

  Liaise with the agency and accounts departments.

  Liaise with Landlords and Tenants both verbally and in writing.

  Organise / prepare schedules of condition.

  Prepare Assured Shorthold Tenancy (ASTs) Agreements.

  Meet the Tenants and/or Landlords at the property to carry out the check in appointment, including taking meter readings and witnessing the ASTs.

  Write to and liaise with utility companies and local authorities in relation to the new tenant occupation.

  Ensure all administration, paperwork and filing to support the above is carried out as per the Residential Lettings Procedures

The skills we are looking for in you:

  Previous experience in a similar role is essential.

   Knowledge of letting legislation desirable but not essential.

   ARLA qualified – Level 3 Residential Letting & Property Management.

   Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients and colleagues.

   Ability to manage time effectively, prioritising tasks and projects to ensure that deadlines are met.

   Works in an organised and methodical fashion, with high level of attention to detail.

   Well presented, well-spoken and confident with the ability to show empathy. 

   Willingness to be part of a team and interact with other staff.

   Ability to accept responsibility and work on their own initiative, whilst adhering to company policies and procedures.

   IT literate and ability to type.

   Proactive approach to work.

   Full UK driving licence, vehicle owner and insured for business purposes.

   Front facing with a positive can-do attitude.
