The extraction of coal principally by open cast means has seen a minor renaissance with the recent spike in energy prices however the current low oil price has dampened demand.  Notwithstanding the current position it is probable that an increase in the oil price will see further interest in open cast coaling.

In light of Calum Gillhespy’s experience in the energy sector and his oversight of open cast coal site restoration for the Coal Authority he is well placed to advise clients who might be approached in respect of potential open cast sites.
