Watch Out for Overhead Cables on Farms

Overhead Cable Danger Heightened At This Time Of Year

For much of the year, the dangers posed from working close to and around overhead electrical cables is limited.  However, we are in a period where there is an increased level of activity taking place across land and farms, as the harvest is gathered in and cultivation operations take place.

Long reach machinery such as telescopic handlers, sprayers and combine harvesters are particularly susceptible to striking such overhead obstructions with potentially lethal implications for their operators.

Northern Powergrid has produced a useful guide for those of us working in such environments, particularly in respect of what to do in case of an emergency, when the correct procedures to follow are not always known nor the dangers obvious.  Click here to find out more.
