Tees Challenge Raises Funds for Teesdale and Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue!

Following a fantastic 12 months of fund-raising, David Cooper and Alex Morrison from the GSC Grays Charity Fundraising Committee were delighted to hand over a cheque recently, to Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue for just under £1900.

Last September, a GSC Grays team undertook an epic Tees Charity Challenge, relay walking non-stop 72 miles from Cow Green Reservoir in Teesdale, following the route of the River Tees to finish at the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge in around 28 hours. This challenge alongside other staff events raised nearly £4,000 for GSC Grays chosen charities for 2016/17, which has been divided equally between Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue and Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Gabrielle Damaszk, collected the cheque on behalf of Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue at the new GSC Grays Professional Services office on Colburn Business Park.

David Cooper, Director, who chairs the GSC Grays Fundraising Committee added “We were joined on the walk by some of the Teesdale and Weardale Mountain Rescue. A fantastic group of volunteers doing amazing work in our area. They really do deserve our support as one day it could be one of us or our family members they are looking for. We also hadn’t appreciated the amount of work they do in urban areas particularly finding missing people, not to mention the work they do on the moors.

Huge thanks also has to go to all those that mucked in and assisted with not just the challenge, but all the fundraising activities we have carried out over the last twelve months – it couldn’t have been done without a massive team effort from staff, of which I am very proud.”

We must also mention the amazing support and sponsorship that we have had, particularly for the Tees Charity Challenge, to our key sponsors: Tilly Bailey & Irvine, Handelsbanken, Parnaby Evans, Lycetts, Baileys & Partners, Kenneth Easby, Better Design Studio and The Log Company.”

In addition to the fundraising undertaken for the chosen charities, the annual rugby match which sees the GSC Grays Agricultural XV take on Wensleydale Rugby Club to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Research, raised over £3,000.

Now the aches have gone and the blisters have healed up, the GSC Grays Fundraising Committee will be giving some thought to this year’s staff challenge, so watch this space!
