Planting the idea!

The Government’s target for ‘net carbon zero’ to plant 30,000 hectares of woodland per year across the United Kingdom coincides with the move away from BPS to Environmental Land Management Schemes.

Together these factors are likely to make woodland planting a more interesting opportunity to many.

Our survey of over 100 farming clients in 2020 revealed that 19% of farmers and land managers have already planted less productive areas of farmland with trees and 11% would be interested in doing so in the future.

At GSC Grays we believe it is important to maximise the funding opportunities and revenue streams available for all land use changes you may be considering.

Grant Schemes are not new to the world of woodland; however, the constant arrival of new opportunities can make it challenging to know which avenue to pursue. Equally, the rise in revenue streams beyond that of timber production, make woodland planting an interesting financial proposition, however it is difficult to know what these revenue streams are.

Rather than indulge in crystal-ball gazing, we would like to set out some of the grant schemes and revenue opportunities available today to help establish how to maximise your woodland planting.

We hope our guide ‘Woodland Planting: Planting the Idea’ will get you started with a few things worth considering before putting roots in the ground.  You can read the guide here.

If you would like to have a discussion around the best woodland planting opportunities for your particular circumstances, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
