Help GSC Grays Raise Funds for a Dedicated & Specialist Cancer Unit at Northallerton

I am afraid it is that time of year again when we pull on our rugby boots to support a great cause and pester people for a donation. – This year we are committing funds raised to Macmillan Cancer Supports’ local project which will benefit our community hugely!

I apologise for the shameless request for sponsorship, as I know you’ll all get lots of requests for equally good causes. – So why is this any different?

In short, it’s a local cause backed by a national charity which will benefit everyone in the area in one way or another. It is scary to think that for everyone who reads this in the area, you’ve got a 50% chance of needing to go to this new facility yourself for treatment, let alone supporting a loved one, at some point!

The annual rugby match has raised over £8,500 in the four years we’ve run it for Macmillan; we are instead raising funds for a dedicated and specialist cancer unit currently being constructed at the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton. This will provide state of the art facilities and treatment for cancer patients, carers and their relatives across the region. Our aim is to beat the £3,500 raised last year by raising at least £5,00 for this great cause.

About the Rugby

This Friday at 7pm, the ‘ageing’ Agricultural Industry XV consisting of a number of local farmers, GSC Grays employees, Genus employees and clients together with anyone else we can persuade will play against Wensleydale RFC 1st XV in a pre-season ‘friendly’.

We were triumphant in the first match held back in 2013, with Wensleydale beating the Agricultural XV in the following two years. Last year saw us on level terms again with a little bit of assistance from former England and British Lions player, Paul Sackey.

I can assure you this will not be an easy 80 minutes and we’ll be suffering for many days/weeks thereafter!  Please do not feel in any way obliged to offer sponsorship, but if you did feel willing to support this great cause, then please visit the link below, or contact me to make other arrangements.

Any support would be much appreciated, be it direct sponsorship or just coming along on the night to cheer us on.

We hope to see you at the match on Friday night, 7pm, food and drink will be available to buy on the night.
