Gluttons for Punishment!

Following a great match last year, an Agricultural Industry XV, created by GSC Grays and Genus, will once again be taking on Wensleydale Rugby Club in a pre-season fundraising friendly on Friday 26th August, to try to win back some dignity after having been beaten for the last two years!

Bruised ego’s aside; and more importantly, the match will once again be in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, following the successful recovery from cancer of one of the Agricultural Industry team players.

The Agricultural Industry XV will consist of a number of local farmers, GSC Grays and Genus employees & clients and others from the agricultural sector, or indeed anyone else they can persuade or bully into playing!

GSC Grays were triumphant in the inaugural match held at the Leyburn ground back in 2013, with Wensleydale winning the last two matches.  So the GSC Grays/Genus side have a point to prove!

The initial idea for the match came from Colin Lucas of Genus, who has himself successfully recovered from cancer and was keen to add his support to the hard work and dedication shown to him by the Macmillan Cancer Support team.  “Wensleydale have yet again been keen to take on the challenge!  Our intention is even the score line this year – watch out Wensleydale!”

Phil Scott-Priestley, Director of GSC Grays who has played in all three of the matches and is still in one piece (just), commented that “The match has proven to be a great success over the last few years, both from a spectator and players perspective. It’s a gruelling but fun way to raise some money for such a great cause, whilst providing a bit of entertainment for those on the side-lines too! The event has proved such good entertainment in the past that we have an ever increasing number of spectators turning up to cheer the teams along!”

A donation is requested as an entry fee to the match, including a free programme and there will be a bar and food available on the night as well as a small auction of prizes kindly donated by supporters.

If you are interested in sponsoring the event or for further information, please contact Phil Scott-Priestley of GSC Grays on: 01748 829210.
