Anaerobic Digestion
With both climate change and fuel security high up the national agenda, the production of fuel from renewable domestic resources has been attracting much publicity recently.
From a landowner’s perspective, bio-fuel is the renewable technology which will have the biggest impact, as this is the source of sustainable power which requires the greatest land area to be dedicated to it. Anaerobic digestion (AD) works at many levels from small scale community projects to industrial food waste processing.
Energy crop AD plants should hold great appeal for landowners because:
- The economics of gas production from agriculture are extremely good
- There are spin off developments which could add substantially to what are already attractive returns
- It brings a different perspective to your rotation, re-introducing grass as a cost effective break crop
- The application of the end substrate can assist soil husbandry, especially in arable regions
- Working with other farmers in the area is likely to be beneficial and this could help your business in other ways
- This technology is proven on the continent and is in widespread use with agricultural feedstocks which makes it a low risk diversification project
This is an emerging and exciting opportunity for landowning clients. At GSC Grays we have invested significant time to ensure that all opportunities for clients have been fully researched. We are now helping clients to take forward AD investments at a number of levels. If you have an interest in AD and would like to discuss the opportunities in detail with people who are genuinely active in the field, please do not hesitate to contact Calum Gillhespy.
