Renowned Northumberland herdsman’s farm comes to market for £4m

Renowned Northumberland herdsman Frank Robson, who built a reputation for sourcing and supplying quality livestock directly to the butchery trade, is retiring, bringing his historic Ryal farmhouse and more than 331.52 acres to the market with a guide price of £4 million.

Mr Robson, based at South Farm, estimates that over his notable career he sold in excess of 50,000 cattle, 30,000 pigs and 160,000 lambs directly into the trade, including Cranstons at Hexham.

John Coleman, Head of Farm Agency at GSC Grays, said: “South Farm is a first class arable and livestock farm, with a handsome historic farmhouse, good farm buildings and productive farmland all in a ring fence.

“Mr Robson and his family have farmed in the Ryal area for many years and have taken the decision to retire. He is widely respected within the farming community and has built a strong reputation over many years. The sale marks the end of an era for a distinctive farming enterprise and presents a notable opportunity within the North East land market.”

The impressive Grade II listed 18th-century four bedroom farmhouse has a rear staircase wing that was added in 1771 and enjoys outstanding views. The farmhouse requires refurbishment and offers substantial accommodation including a hall, two reception rooms, kitchen, bathroom and three large attic rooms.

South Farm includes a range of modern and traditional stone buildings with good livestock housing, covered silage clamp, grain storage and 331 acres of Productive Grade 3 arable land, ploughable pasture and permeant grazing. There is significant development potential subject to planning.

The market town of Hexham, with its wide range of shops, services and good transport links, is approximately 12 miles away. Newcastle is around 15 miles away, providing extensive shopping, leisure and business facilities, together with Newcastle International Airport and East Coast main line rail services offering regular direct connections to London, Edinburgh and other major cities.

South Farm, Ryal is being offered for sale as a whole with a guide price of £4 million through GSC Grays Farm Agency. For further information, please contact 01748 829203.
