David is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors with over twenty-five years post qualification experience in rural estate management. He is Chairman of GSC Grays and is responsible for the provision of Estate Management Services on a significant number of estates across England.
David undertakes the role of trustee and provides strategic advice to a number of landed estates. In addition, he runs the family office for the late Sir Tom Cowie, which is based from the Estate Office at Broadwood Hall near Lanchester in County Durham, where he is a trustee/director for all the family trusts and companies. David is also the managing trustee of the Sir Tom Cowie Charitable Trust, a trust that provides grant funding to organisations in Sunderland and County Durham.
Guy is an experienced chartered surveyor who has lived and worked in North Yorkshire for over 16 years. His background is in land agency and rural estate management.
Guy works with a number of private clients covering a diverse range of property types and specialises in providing rural consultancy advice to estates, owner occupiers and tenants across the north east of England.
As the Managing Director, Guy is involved with all aspects of the work undertaken by the Company and often provides strategic and succession planning advice to clients.
In 2004, Guy established the farm and estate agency business which continues to operate successfully across the north east, despite the current economic conditions.
Guy retains a hands-on role with the Company, dealing with a full range of residential, leisure and diversified rural properties giving him a broad expertise in the land and housing markets.
Calum is a chartered surveyor with over 20 years experience of property management for private and institutional clients. Calum’s work includes dealing with development projects of all scales, covering residential and commercial property. In addition, he also undertakes valuation work and deals contentious landlord and tenant matters. Calum is a trained mediator, expert witness and arbitrator who provides dispute resolution services to a range of clients.

David is an experienced Chartered Surveyor who has been back living and working in North Yorkshire for over 8 years, his background is in Land / Property Agency and Professional Surveying Services.
David works with both private and corporate clients, covering a diverse range of property types and specialises in providing property advice on sale / acquisition and professional services including valuations, investment advice and surveys, across the North-East of England.
As a founding Director of the business, David is involved with many aspects of the work undertaken by the Company, particularly from a valuation perspective as Head of Valuations and Surveys.
David, who was previously based in our Bedale office, now runs the Valuation and Survey Department from our new offices at Colburn. He deals with a full range of residential, leisure and diversified rural properties giving him a broad expertise in the land and housing markets.
Phil is an experienced chartered surveyor having been practicing for over 10 years across England. He has lived and worked in North Yorkshire for over 6 years, having moved back to his native county having spent four years working as a land agent in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
Phil’s core work is for private and trustee clients, undertaking estate and sporting management & consultancy across the North East.
The rural estate businesses that Phil is involved with have a diverse range of enterprises, in addition to the more traditional estate activities based around residential, commercial and agricultural property.
Phil manages a number of upland estates with a sporting focus and has developed the sporting advice and management department within the Company expanding the client base and geographical spread of the business.
Lucinda joined Smiths Gore, Newmarket as a Trainee Surveyor upon graduating, passing her APC and CAAV exams in December 2003. She then joined Carter Jonas in Cambridge in order to broaden her experience.
Lucinda joined GSC Chartered Surveyors in October 2007 pre-merger and became a Director of GSC Grays in 2016.
Lucinda’s role is now focused on estate management and general professional work having previously been heavily involved with Basic Payment and agri-environment schemes, residential management and farm sales. She is currently the Chair of the Professional Service Board and helps mentor the graduate surveyors.
Robert, who joined GSC Grays in July 2017 as a Director, is heading up the Company’s Farm Business Consultancy Department and our Chester-le-Street office.
Robert, who has lived in County Durham for many years, has over 29 years of experience of providing advice and guidance on all aspects of the modern Farming Business.

John, who joined GSC Grays as a Director in July 2017, is heading up the Company’s Farms and Country House Agency department across the North of England and Yorkshire.
John started his career as a graduate rural property surveyor with Young’s Chartered Surveyors before moving to a large Edinburgh based general practice firm specialising in agricultural property, sales and valuations. In 1999, he joined Knight Frank in Edinburgh and became the head of Knight Frank’s Scottish Residential Business in 2002.
In 2011, John moved to Smiths Gore to head up and develop their rural estate agency services across Scotland specialising in the sale of rural properties, land, farms and estates. John became particularly well known for his expertise in the sale of the more unusual property including islands, castles and commercial sporting properties.
Following the merger of Savills and Smiths Gore in 2015, he relocated to Wooler and has been advising on farm and estate sales and purchases in the borders and across the north of England.
John has moved south with his wife and family and is now based in Teesdale.

Ali is an experienced Farm Business Consultant who has lived and worked in Northumberland for 15 years. Having grown up living and working on a family farm in which he retains a keen interest, his background is focused on Farm Business Consultancy.
Ali has experience working with a number of progressive farming clients throughout Northumberland and Durham, where his involvement will range from helping day to day management of farm businesses, through to simply dealing with Subsidy and Environmental Scheme applications.
He can advise on all aspects of farm business financial management, budgeting, financial monitoring, Whole Farm Appraisals and an assortment of farming arrangements. Ali also specialises in Rural Development Grant Applications, helping clients research, plan, secure consents and finance in order to set up new diversified enterprises.
Returning to work in Northumberland in 2003, Ali held a short-term role in Rural Business Development before helping to successfully establish a Farm Business Consultant team for a Firm of Rural Surveyors based in Northumberland, before joining GCS Grays in April 2017, to help set up a new Farm Business Consultancy team and a new office at Alnwick.

Greg joined GSC Grays in February 2019 as a Rural Director, operating out of the new Easingwold Office.
Greg is an experienced farm business consultant, who has lived and worked in North Yorkshire for the last 25 years or so, providing advice and guidance on all aspects of professional farm management.
Greg started his career in practical farming before joining a national farm business consultancy firm in 1991. Greg has a Diploma in Farm Management from Seale Hayne Agricultural College and experience of dairy farming, sheep production and arable crop production.
Greg specializes in farm business consultancy for mixed farming businesses, dairy enterprises and other livestock operations. Greg has significant experience in financial management, business planning and strategic advice.
